    Course Description:

The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) Course is a comprehensive program consisting of both classroom (didactic), skills lab, clinical (hospital observation) and field (ambulance observation) components. This course will provide the student with instruction in the roles and responsibilities of the EMS provider; well-being including injury prevention and infectious disease; an overview of human systems; pharmacology; venous access; airway management; training for management of medical and trauma emergencies; special considerations of the obstetric, neonatal, pediatric, and geriatric patients; and a focus on assessment-based management.

This course will also provide the student the opportunity to apply past and current cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills in a supervised clinical or field setting. Students who successfully complete this course are eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs psychomotor and cognitive exams which lead to certification at the AEMT level in the State of Louisiana, as well as with the National Registry of EMTs.

    Teaching-Learning Methods:

Teaching-learning methods in this course may include, but are not limited to, assigned readings, essays, presentations, discussion boards, chat sessions, critical thinking exercises, labs, and class activities. Evaluation procedures include quizzes, written examinations, and assignments. Major exam dates and times are subject to change. Supplemental information to assist in your learning will be posted on My Brady Lab. You will need to devote roughly 8-10 hours per week to MyBradyLab assignments, plus online class sessions and skills days.

    Course Attendance Policy:

Student attendance is required at ALL scheduled live sessions and skills days. No makeups will be allowed. Students will be dropped from the course for excessive absenteeism if attendance falls below 90% of scheduled course hours (20 hours). Excused absences may be granted for medical emergencies or death in the immediate family. Excused absences may be granted by the course instructor for extenuating circumstances.

CREDENTIAL: State and National EMT Certification

In EMT 360, we’re going to start with what counts most in EMS education: real world patient contacts. You’ll start seeing patients at the beginning of the course, and as you see more of them, the material you’re learning in class will get broader and deeper to give you the context of what you’re experiencing in your clinical rotations. Current Louisiana or National Registry EMRs can take advantage of their existing education by entering the course with advanced standing on May 27, 2020. Over the course of EMT 360, students will gain far more clinical experience than in traditional EMT courses, and you’ll graduate ready to hit the ground running in your EMS career.
