PrerequisitesTo participate in the EMT program, you must meet these prerequisites:
Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years old to be certified as an EMT in Louisiana. If you are not yet 18 years old, you may enroll in the course six months prior to your 18th birthday with the understanding that your certificate of course completion will be withheld until you reach 18. If you are under the age of 17 1/2 you may still take the course, however, you will not be eligible for certification as an EMT in Louisiana. Preparation: The EMT program can be challenging, especially if you have limited experience with science or human anatomy and physiology. We recommend all EMT students take our EMT Preparation course, which will familiarize you with basic medical terminology and body systems. Medical Clearance: You must provide copies of the following on the first day of the course. When enrolling, please download our Medical Requirements Document for forms you can print for your physician's certification.
